Born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Vivian Porterfield attended grammar and high schools in or around Oklahoma City and in 1945 moved with her family to California where her parents were employed in various defense industries until the end of the war.
She met Lynn about June 1944, in Hanford, Calif while on a temproary assignment at an army base near by. Upon her return to the U.S. in March, 1946 they were married in Las Vegas, Nev.
They remained with the Army/Air Force, and Vi served in various capacities and places (one overseas assignment at Daharan AFB, Saudi Arabia, for one year in 1951) until her retirement from the Air Force in August 1963, as a Major, Computer Maintenance Officer. Thereafter she accepted civilian employment as a Computer Programmer Specilist at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, until her final retirement from federal service, August 1980. As federal retirees they have lived on our farm near Stephenville, Texas, but after May 15, 2001, we will be living in total retirement at The Villagees, Florida (20 mi. south of Ocala).
